DEEP IN OUR HEARTS Is an hour-long documentary that explores the lives and hearts of 4 white women who were active participants of the Civil Rights Movement. Created for Trillium Media and distributed by PRI as a Women’s History Month special this documentary contradict the simple one-dimensional profile often presented of whites in the movement. THIS TIME AROUND: REINVENTING COMMUNITY This year long feature series looked at development issues facing Appalachian, Ohio and explored how area residents can take charge of the region’s development.

A PASSION FOR ART is a 1/2 hour documentary special released in March 2003. It's about the connections between art-making and community building. It looks at a sheltered workshop where artists work with developmentally disabled adults to create art that changes lives and strengthens the community.

MOUNTAIN LIVES . I produced three of twelve stories in this international series produced for the International Year of the Mountain - 2002. Panos International commissioned four journalists from different mountain ranges to explore their environments and let the indigenous people describe it for themselves.
 

COUNTDOWN TO MILLENNIUM. This 16-part radio feature series chronicles the 20th century history of southeast Ohio. Residents from the region re-tell the history as they remember it.

Second Chances

SECOND CHANCES  A 1/2 hour documentary on the Hocking Valley Community Residential Center. The show aired locally on WOUB and then nationally on SOUNDPRINT.

 AMERICA'S WOMEN: A LEGACY OF CHANGE. This four-part radio series on women's history commemorates the 75th anniversary of women's right to vote. It aired on over 50 public radio stations . It concluded with an hour long call-in show on current women's issues. (1995). 

    First Place - Radio Documentary Series and Best of Show, American Women in Radio and Television Commendation Awards, 1996

COUNTRY ROADS: AN AUDIO TOUR OF GALLIA COUNTY, OHIO  (1993) This 1 1/2 hour audio tour uses a documentary format to focus on the history of the region and points of interest along the roadside. The project was funded by Bob Evans Farms.  Click here to listen to or download a MP3 sample.

    1994 Award of Merit For Audio Visual Production, Ohio Museums Association 

    1994 Outstanding Achievement Award for Audio Visual, Ohio Association of Historical Societies and Museums . 

NPR REMEMBERING THE SUFFRAGETTES (1990) A half-hour radio feature for NPR's HORIZONS series. The feature focused on the events surrounding the passage of the 1920 Amendment giving women the right to vote. It aired nationally three times. 

    1991 Bronze Medal for History, International Radio Festival of New York. 

A WOMAN'S PLACE: THE CHANGING ROLES OF WOMEN IN THE 20TH CENTURY (1990) This half-hour radio feature and hour long call-in show aired on Ohio Public Radio stations and allowed callers throughout the state to talk to in-studio experts in two different cities.

    1992 Ohio State Award, Top Honors for radio. 

    1991 Best Radio Feature, Heart Of America Media Competition. 

VANISHING LANDSCAPES (1989)  I wrote and produced this 15-part series on Appalachian Ohio history and culture. Also produced an hour long call-in show on "THE FUTURE OF COMMUNITIES IN APPALACHIA."   

    1990 Honorable Mention for Arts and Cultural Affairs Programming, Ohio Educational Broadcasting Commission.

NPR FARM LIFE: THE AMERICAN IDEAL (1989)  At NPR's request, I wrote and produced a 1/2 hour feature for HORIZONS about the family farm in the earlier part of the century.
